Ajmer

Ajmer is the oldest city of Rajasthan or we can say that Ajmer is the center of Rajasthan. Ajmer is found in the northwest of India and is encircled by Aravali hills which preserve it from desertification from the Thar Desert. It is situated on the lower slope of taragarh. Ajmer is also known as Ajmer Sharif because it has the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti dargah. This Sufi shrine is the most visited place in Ajmer. 

The ancient name of this city was Ajayameru. It was founded in the 11th century by chahamans king Ajaydeva. In 1193 Ajmer was taken over by mamluks of the Mughal sultanate. This later was returned to Rajputs under the condition of tribute. In 1556 Mughal Emperor Akbar conquered Ajmer and it came under the Mughal Empire.

The climate of Ajmer is hot. As Ajmer is 484m above sea level. There is not much rainfall all year as Ajmer receives 55cm of rain throughout the year. May is the warmest month of the year in Ajmer. The average daily temperature of Ajmer is 33°C/84 °F. 

 

How to travel Ajmer

By Air:- Krishan Garh airport is the nearest airport to reach Ajmer it is only about 25km to Ajmer you can take a taxi or bus from there to Ajmer.

By Train:- Ajmer junction is the railway station if you visit by train. 

By Road:-  Ajmer is connected by roads as it is situated on the Golden Quadrilateral National Highway 8. It took around 5hr to reach Ajmer from Delhi. There are also many government roadways buses or private air conditioner buses available.

Best time to visit Ajmer

The best time to visit is March-May. The major festival that is celebrated in Ajmer is the annual urs in Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti dargah. Many devotees of different religions come here to for urs which is held in May.

Dargah Sharif Ajmer

It is a famous place to visit in Ajmer. It is located at the foot of tarahgarh hill. Many devotees visit Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti dargah with all faith. Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti was a Sufi saint who came from Persia and devoted his life to helping the needy and poor people. There is also an Akbari masjid which was built by Shahjahan. According to the statistics, 1.25 lakh pilgrims visit here daily. Timing:- 5:00am to 7:00pm

Ana Sagar Lake

It is a man-made Lake which was constructed by Maharajas Anaji the ancestor of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan between 1135 to 1150 AD. This Lake is excellent for family trips. There is also a tiny island in the middle of the lake. Visitors can hire a boat or scooter to reach the island.

Adhai din ka jhopda

Adhai din ka jhopda is basically a mosque and a famous place visited after dargah. It was constructed in 1153 within 2.5 days. It is an amazing piece of architecture with domes, pillars, and arched screens. Location:- Andere Kota road Timing:- 4:30 am to 8:30

Prithviraj Smark

It is dedicated to Prithviraj Chauhan the great and well-known king of his time. This place has an amazing statue of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan with his horse. Hence, It is placed on the path to tarahgarh fort.
