Sonamarg  is one of the most popular hill stations in India located in Ganderbal District union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This hill station is located approx 80km from Srinagar (summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir) in northeast direction and thus, this place experiences a humid continental climate. The lateral meaning of its name is meadow of gold.

During the ancient times, this place was a gateway for silk trading known as ancient Silk Road, connecting Jammu and Kashmir to Tibet. Even this place has its own strategically important place for Indian Army during the Kargil war in 1999, with Pakistan.

The Geographical location of Sonamarg in the Kashmir valley is undoubtedly makes this place notable for tourism having blooming Alpine meadows and snow capped mountains. Some most popular peaks are nearby to this place like Machoi Glacier, Sirbal Peak, Kolahoi Peak, Amarnath Peak, and Machoi Peak. Thajiwas Glacier
